the trouble with sharing & avenging the zucchini

To celebrate the slight decrease in fuel prices I drove to work all of last week. I felt guilty but I needed the extra time i was saving for errands at home. Today however was back to public transit. Ugh! I usually do not mind but todfay the silly bus was smelly and full enough that eleven riders had to stand in the aisles. I know it was eleven because the driver asked someone to count.

The even icker thing was hearing all the snifling and hacking and re-arranging of phlegm. I don't want to catch a cold or some other nasty bug yet i couldn't do much but sit there and continue breathing. Not much i can do about airborne stuff but I now carry one of those anti-bacterial hand gels. Do those gels really work to protect a person from flu bugs or other nasties? We will not be able to get flu shots until the first of November.

I swam last night at local community gym and not my normal gym. It wasn't a bad swim at all with only 2 other lane swimmers. While doing the backstroke I did get too close to one of the ropes and hit the guy in the next lane. That was freaky. I didn't know what body part i made contact with so I avoided eye contact with him at the start of the lane for a few laps until i finished. In my rush to get away I twice had to return to retrieve a forgotten towel and flipflops after I walked all the walk to the dressing room. So very embarrassing because by now i was thinking maybe I hit the guy in some unfortunate body part and since I kept returning he might be thinking I'm hoping to grope him or something. After the second time I just went to sit in the steam room because i was cold by then. And guess who finally finished laps and decided to sit in the steam room? The guy i accidentally - touched, hit, slapped and not groped. I said hello and that i was sorry about hitting him, cuz sometimes i do like a drunk driver when i do the back stroke. I should have kept my mouf shut because he then told me a story about how he was collided with other swimmer before that caused a shoulder injury. He has sloppy strokes where his whole palm slaps the surface causing much splashing but he was happy to brag.

Remember all those zucchinis that took over my garden and became giant monsters? I found some tasty use for them - zucchini lasagna. In place of noodles you use zucchini so it's low carb until you serve bread on the side to sop up all the sauce. I didn't exactly follow the ingredients but you do have to sprinkle the slices with salt to drain off the excess moisture. I used my cheese slicer with the wire cutter to make long flat strips that came out like noodles. Thinking The Hub might not be too thrilled with this dish I picked up a steak for him that was unnecessary. yum, even better with a chianti chaser.

I have to say sometimes living in the middle of nowhere has it's advantages. I hope he shared his steak.

my micro professors laugh at the 99.99% effectiveness of anti-bacterial hand gels because the toughest of the buggers survive and with each generation, the bugs become more resistant. i still use it especially when i am going between patients at a health fair when i don't have ready access to a sink to wash my hands.

flu season is around the corner. ugh! all you can do is drink plenty of water, get enough sleep, eat right & take your vitamins to keep your immune system up so it can fight off the crappy stuff in the air on public transit.
